There will be days when you might lose focus or wonder why you started writing in the first place. You seem to lack motivation and lose the patience to continue with what you have started. These are testing times for you as you start questioning what is important to you and why you started in the first place. This has happened to me as well and as I am at a stage in life where I have no idea what type of turn my life would take, I normally turn to my writing to find refuge.

See, I studied to become a lawyer but as I did my internships I realized that I was better at doing the research needed for the cases rather than standing in court. So I started reading cases. In India, we keep a record of the cases in a series of books called AIR’s or All India Reporter.
There are different series for different classes of cases, but I had started with AIRs and every day I would sit and read the judgments given in the case. Through the readings, I developed my writing and vocabulary.
Now how do I stay motivated? It’s very simple:
I keep a schedule: this is something that you might have read so many times, “try to stay on a schedule” and “Having a schedule is important”, but it is more to make what you feel like a task to be more like a habit, just like when you wake up, you automatically brush your teeth, just like that make writing a habit.
No distractions: make sure that your phone is on DND mode and you have no other distractions this way I stay motivated and have the energy focused on one channel.
Don't lose hope: “Rome wasn't built in a day” nor was your writing, we often forget how we started a new adventure or project. There are always baby steps involved. Just like how we learned to write the alphabet, then words, then sentences, and then paragraphs, the same idea applies to creative writing and how we start. It takes practice and the more you practice the better you get at it.
Join courses: there are courses on creative writing all over the internet and if you just type “creative writing courses” in Google you will find even free courses that will help you. As a creative writer, there will be times when you will be short of money and sometimes it helps to know that there is free knowledge on the world wide web. This will give you the drive to be motivated and focused on your writing.
Reward yourself: this has helped me so much to be motivated in my writing. Treat yourself to a snack or choose to sleep in for the day. It’s up to you how you want to reward yourself
Hope these points have helped you try to stay motivated at the writing task that you may have at hand. These points that I have stated are all the ways I stay motivated with my everyday writing.
